Just About The Details

life on pretty paper

Had a Good Laugh – www.twistedsketches.com -sketch #45 with the twist of LAUGH

April14

Well….twisted sketch #45 with the twist of LAUGH is live over at www.twistedsketches.com ! Come over and join us….it really is SO much fun!  Here is my DT assignment for this week’s sketch (you can find the original sketch here at http://www.twistedsketches.com/2010/04/twisted-sketch-045.html !

I must first preface this by saying that I received my husband’s permission before I did this layout! I did not want to disrespect something that he takes so very seriously! but I was pretty sure that he could appreciate the humor in this scenario! 🙂  The journaling is hidden under the photo – written on the “the story” paper that is tucked inside the photo (I sewed the photo down on 3 sides and tucked the journaling inside the pocket that was made with the photo.)  Journaling reads:  “Sometime in the Fall of 2007….I will never forget the night you came home from your York Rite meeting (part of the Masons)….wearing this hat, carrying this sword.  I didn’t know I had married a pirate. I didn’t want to offend you, but I couldn’t help but laugh. You very gratiously let me take this picture – I don’t want to forget these moments…and of course, when Saylor saw this hat he thought you were a pirate too.”  I remember thinking, oh, good Lord, what has he gotten himself into 🙂  This was such a fun layout to do! if you go over to www.twistedsketches.com you can check out all the other layouts done by the Design Team….good stuff!!!

Here is a view of the journaling pulled out from under the photo.

I hand-made the ship…drew, cut, & colored the the actual ship from a sheet of chipboard & made the sails from off-white CS and inked the edges….I embroidered the little red cross (a symbol of the Knights Templar…all related to the York Rite Masons.)  I tied the sails onto toothpicks (not an easy task.) I cut the clouds out of one of my all-time favorite papers, Howdy by American Crafts (this was my last piece 🙁   I free-handed the waves, cut and inked them….curled them up for a little dimension….used some foam pop-dots on a few to secure.  The directional and anchor stamps are both from CTMH.  The background map paper is old Heidi Swapp which I scored at Tuesday Mornings awhile back…thought it was perfect for this page!  Inked and distressed the map paper to death….adhered it to a piece of CTMH cardstock for support. The waves were made out of paper that I purchased in a big pack at W.  Used my handy-dandy Fiber Friend from Timeless Touches for my sewing lines, and hand-sewed the photo and lines on the waves.  I also sewed a little red border around my clouds for texture and balance.  The title fonts are from Thickers (laugh), cut (good) out of one of my new Prima Flights of Fancy papers, (had) is from some CS stickers from the Paper Studio….and the “A” is Jenni Bowlin! Such a fun layout to do!

TFL!!!

The amount of detail is AMAZING! I love how the waves are 3-dimensional, and the parchment note is super cool. You are going to have to teach me how to make my paper look like that! LOVE IT!
